A Tip for Families

Even when an activity isn't officially designated "sensory-friendly," families can often make it more successful by:

  • Going during off-peak hours

  • Calling ahead to ask about crowds/noise

  • Bringing headphones or ear protection

  • Bringing a preferred fidget or sensory tool

  • Reviewing a visual schedule/social story beforehand

  • Planning a quiet place to take breaks

  • Keeping visits shorter and gradually increasing duration

  • Letting the child choose between activities when possible
